Creating a Gig Economy on the Inside
Kelley Steven-Waiss, EVP CHRO of HERE Technologies
Kelley Steven-Waiss will discuss how in an era of rapid change and disruption, companies need to apply the concept of the gig economy inside of their organization to share talent across boundaries by dynamically matching and deploying skills to the work. This creates competitive advantage around an employee experience that both democratizes work and unleashes internal capacity.
Kelley will provide a new paradigm for work that informs organizations how to master business model disruptions, rather than get run over by them. While the war for talent has always focused on acquiring the best talent, she will share that the companies that will win in the marketplace will be experts at deploying the skills they have already acquired inside of their company (augmented by contract employees and on demand systems to fill specific needs), as well as, how to re-imagine others to fit major skill needs for the future. The burning platform for this change is that artificial intelligence will eliminate jobs faster than the available talent can learn new skills; thus, increasing the criticality of re-imagining and re-skilling your internal workforce. Compounding this, the emergence of new skill domains will create an imbalance in supply versus demand, so simply trying to acquire those critical skills from on-demand external platforms will not suffice because they will not be in ample supply.
By having visibility into the hidden skills, capabilities, and aspirations of their employees, organizations can more rapidly, and cost effectively match the right talent to solve real-time business challenges, and at the same time, tap into discretionary effort from a highly engaged workforce by allowing employees to work on those projects that best match their skills and interests. The future is about connecting people with opportunities for micro-learning, personal growth, and the ability to fully leverage one’s entire set of capabilities, so employees lead more fulfilling careers and companies maximize their investment in their talent.
This session will include a case study of the new talent operating model (TOM) that enables this strategy, how Kelley was able to implement this as a part of a three-year people strategy and get significant business results, and a demo of the Hitch talent platform her team developed and commercialized. She will share how HR executives can get started on a future of work journey and take the first steps to implement this strategy inside their organizations.
Who should attend: This workshop is open to three people from each CSHRP member company.
