Silicon Valley Bank (SVB): The Importance of Values in Our Success

At SVB, we believe Our Values are critical to our success. They had served us well but needed to be refreshed to serve us in our transformation into the future.  In this presentation, you will learn what our new values are and HR’s role in implementing and integrating them deeply into the organization. Specifically, you will learn how HR’s leadership and execution is resulting in our employees’:

·         Knowing the values and understanding the need of them for SVB’s success

·         Believing that the values are the right ones for SVB’s success and personally committing to upholding them

·         Incorporating the values into the way they do their work and relying on them to guide them in their decision-making and problem-solving

CBS Interactive: Evolving Executive Training into an Executive Experience

Elise Ben-Yair, SVP, Human Resources, at CBS Interactive will share her team's experience in designing and managing an executive training program that spanned six months and included five different training vehicles. She will provide an overview of the content, what worked well/not well, and how they measured results.

Elise Ben-Yair, SVP HR

Elise has a depth of HR experience across numerous businesses in the media industry.   She began her HR career on GE's HRLP program and  supported several acquisitions and mergers for NBC, designing compensation programs and building HR information systems.  During her long tenure at NBCUniversal she supported brands across entertainment, news, film, digital media and native digital businesses.   Elise was the VP of People supporting BuzzFeed’s Entertainment Group, which makes videos, posts, and quizzes across a variety of distribution platforms.  In September 2018 she took on the role of SVP HR, leading the HR function for CBS Interactive, which is the online operations of CBS Corporation as well as some of the top native digital brands in the entertainment industry.

Shutterfly:  M&A and Cultural Integration

The number one reason that M&A deals fail is a lack of cultural integration between the two companies. In April 2018, Shutterfly acquired Lifetouch, the national leader in school photography.  While the company has been hard at work integrating our back-end processes and customer-facing offerings, we have also been driving large scale cultural integration between the two teams.   We’ve addressed cultural change over several phases – have made some strong progress in aligning the employee experience, and still have many opportunities for the future.  Things like company values, D&I, benefits, and more are all pieces of the overarching integration work.  In this session, we’ll describe our approach, our successes and challenges, and where we see the work headed in the future.
